The 555

The ultimate dumbass endurance event of the decade!

The 2008 555 was an incredible success! Thanks to all who supported us along the way. Please check out our 2008 trip log with details from the 2008 trip.

A group of like-minded Portland fellows are attempting the 555 in reverse from Portland to Knoxville in 2009. They plan to arrive in Knoxville around July 4th. We'll post a link to their site if they ever get one!

Plans for the next 555 in 2010 are already in the works. We'll keep you posted.

Welcome to the 555. The rules are simple:

  1. 1975 or older motorcycle
  2. can only spend $500 TOTAL on purchase and restoration of bike
  3. 500cc or less engine size

A favorite magazine of ours (Motorcyclist Retro did an article on us a while back)...

Our friend Mitch Boehm, ex-editor of Motorcyclist and Motorcyclist Retro, has decided to follow his passion for vintage bikes of a certain era (that happen to include the bikes of the 555) and launch a new magazine called Motorcycle Retro. In the true spirit of the 555, Mitch is putting his nuts on the line for this self-funded and self-published mag and we hope like hell you will send him the measly subscription fee and start receiving this sweet, new mag. If you were lucky enough to get your hands on a copy of Motorcyclist Retro (three issues were published last year) you know his new magazine will be worth every penny of the subscription fee. PLUS, it'll come straight to your mailbox in a protective polybag, which means it'll arrive unmolested - unlike a lot of the 555's bikes! Click for subscription info.

A quote from Sneaky Pistol's friend from PA...

“It’s always nice to know that you are entrusting your life to a royal piece of shit, right? There is something that they have up here that we don’t have in TN, and that’s an annual safety inspection sticker to go along with the emissions sticker (welcome to the over-regulated, over-litigated NorthEast). The safety sticker is a way of them making sure that a bunch of idiots don’t buy a bunch of unreliable motorcycles and ride them all over the country…”
